IV VITAMIN DRIPS — THE SCIENCE BEHIND THIS NUTRITIONAL BODY-HACK
It was the end of February in New York City and boom — I got hit with the winter blues. Cabin fever, winter blahs, seasonal depression, you name it.
On a business front, things have been stellar and I've been happy. Bringing on fantastic new 1-1 health coaching clients in 2018, re-designing my website, starting back up my blog and working on the final edits of my book with my Editor. Even though I'd walk and workout most days, I'd been sitting my butt in a chair a lot the last three months and I just felt a little stuck. A little off. Like the long, grey winter had finally got to me.
You too, my friend?
Well, over the years, I've learned and now teach my clients that our body talks to us and tells us what it needs.
What I needed was some serious Vitamin D (liquid sunshine & mood), Vitamin C (immunity & energy) and Vitamin B (mood & energy & better workouts) . . . plus, I figured with such a strong start to the year business-wise, I could use a dose of a CALM, stress-less, anti-anxiety formula. There's no way I'm slipping back in to my days of battling Adrenal Fatigue and elevated cortisol levels.
So I figured . . . let's really GO FOR IT and try out these IV drips I've been hearing about from all my wellness friends.
They're expensive, but all in the name of research, right?
I reached out to Nutridrip and signed up for their NutriCALM IV Drip and added on Vitamin D and Vitamin B booster shots.
Here's the beautiful office in Flatiron on 21st street, my face before my IV (the nurse was great - it actually didn't hurt!) and chilling out for an hour during the relaxing IV drip process.
Here's what I learned
- IV therapy is the quickest way to deliver any kind of fluid or vitamins to the body, with a bioavailability absorption of 100%.
- As a busy urban professional, it can be difficult to make sure that your body is getting everything that it needs.
- Only a small amount (20-30%) of the vitamins we take orally actually get absorbed. Plus a lot of things can go wrong in the process of extracting nutrients from food . . . especially when we are stressed!
That’s where NutriDrip can help. This New York-based company was founded by doctors and nurses. NutriDrip offers 30 - 60 minute drip sessions at location, or in-home, that covers everything from increasing energy, enhancing the strength of the immune system, suppressing anxiety and stress, and ultimately preventing aging.
They even have three drip options for battling hangovers!
Here is how IV Nutrient therapy works:
- IV Therapy bypasses the entire digestive system including your liver — meaning they administer the nutrients directly into your blood.
- IV Therapy increases blood and tissue concentrations of vitamins far above the levels we can ever achieve even by taking vitamins orally.
- IV Therapy temporarily and safely floods cells with an oversupply of the nutrients needed to make energy and the building blocks of our cells.
- IV Therapy can deliver fat soluble vitamins (A, E, D and K), water soluble vitamins (C, B1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,12) , minerals (magnesium, calcium, zinc), amino acids . . . directly to all cells.
The effects of making these nourishing vitamins available to your cells in abundance can be dramatic and almost instantaneous. Many eport an increase in energy, better mood, less anxiety, improved immunity and sleep, faster recovery from muscle fatigue and a lifting of their mental “fog” very soon after treatment.
So if you feel like crap . . . . I highly recommend giving it a try.
What I THOUGHT
The office was impeccably clean and inviting — it felt like going to a fun doctor's appointment or hanging out with the nurse from elementary school. They make you feel at home, safe from the noise of the city, comfortable, relaxed and well taken care of.
The drips and booster shots are administered by an actual Registered Nurse and follow all the best safety and sanitation protocols. My Nurse Ellie (hi Ellie!) was an absolute doll and told such great stories to take my mind off the needles.
She warned me I'd be reallyyyy sleepy after getting the NutriCALM drip, so make sure to schedule your session later in the day or when you can go home and get to zzz or take a nap. She was right. By 8pm I was home, drifting off to sleep and mumbling on the couch.
My IV Drip included 10,000 mg of Vitamin C! Talk about an immunity power-house! That's like taking over 20 Vitamin C tablets. I'd felt a slight itch in my throat earlier that day and after the drip, not a hint of a sore throat.
The IV drip took between 45-60 minutes.
Nurse Ellie administered the booster shots in my hips (upper glutes) in a private room after my drip. The Vitamin D booster was a breeze and barely hurt. But the Vitamin B was kind of painful - but worth it. It felt like soreness spreading through the muscles of my left butt cheek. I hobbled out of the appointment and some guy even gave me his seat on the subway! But the soreness faded over a couple hours.
The Results
I'd had a lot on my to-do list that day, but after the drip, I felt a serene sense of ZEN. I felt incredibly chilled out as I got on the subway - almost like I'd have a couple glasses of wine, but without the buzz or the tipsiness or potential hangover. I knew I had a ton of emails to dig through, but I suddenly didn't care. (Which is rare for me!).
My seasonal blahs have lifted. I feel a renewed sense of energy and excitement about my workouts — my recent vacation probably helped too ;)
I went to Colorado three days after the drip and it was the first time I didn't get constant headaches from the altitude. There has to be a connection.
While in Colorado I went cross country skiing and snow shoeing (at 11,000+ feet!) and felt a ton of endurance thanks to the Vitamin B booster.
I haven't gotten sick all winter!
I know I'll be back to get another drip soon. I'm super curious about the Vitamin C Immunity Drip and the Detox Drip with Glutathione for beauty and clear skin.
So if you go . . . enjoy . . . and be sure to tell me all about it!
xo, Michelle
